Learn more about the latest of these custom, crafted expeditions: A 10-day Japan trip that combines an introduction to the culture and glamor of Tokyo with seven nights in Niseko, Japan’s legendary ski resort.
Why Japan Has Become One of the Most Sought-After Luxury Travel Experiences
A growing interest in experiential luxury travel in recent years has steadily increased the appeal of destinations that combine urban sophistication with outdoor exploration. Trips to Japan have long been a bucket-list staple, but as interest in luxury travel grows, so too does the appeal of a country that famously offers a balance of precision, hospitality, culture, and adventure.
In January 2027, Equity Estates Expeditions will bring Equity Estates Investors on a Japan expedition carefully crafted around the country’s most attractive luxury travel offerings. The trip is split into two parts: three days in Tokyo followed by seven days in Niseko.
In Tokyo, Equity Estates Investors will enjoy a curated introduction to Japan’s capital, touring the city’s sights by day and sampling its finest restaurants by night. In Niseko, guests will experience six days of guided skiing in Japan’s premier ski resort area during “Japanuary,” the peak season for powder snow. The skiing program is complemented by cultural and non-skiing programming.
The three-day trip to Tokyo is presented as an optional “pre-trip” that can be added to the primary, seven-day excursion to Niseko.
The 2027 trip runs from January 27 to February 6.

Begin Your Journey in Tokyo
Tokyo can easily feel overwhelming without local guidance. It’s a city of more than 14 million people — more than 37 million live in the greater metropolitan area. Among the most densely populated places in the world, it’s fast-paced and futuristic, yet also steeped in history and tradition. There’s so much to take in, it can be difficult to know where to start.
Equity Estates Expeditions’ three-night Tokyo pre-trip runs from January 27 to January 30, 2027. You’ll find a thoughtfully-paced itinerary that offers private or curated cultural experiences, tours of Tokyo’s historic districts and modern neighborhoods, and exceptional dining.
You’ll stay at the five-star Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon — a hotel that boasts some of the city’s best views of Tokyo Tower. The hotel is close to luxury boutiques and fine-dining restaurants in the Ginza district, and to the vibrant arts scene and nightlife in the Roppongi district.
In Tokyo, you’ll enjoy two days of curated experiences and insider access, allowing you to engage more deeply with the city. Three hosted dinners include a casual, local welcome meal, an elevated, fine-dining experience, and the option of a group dinner or private dining experience on the last night in the city.
All entrance fees, transportation, and gratuities for guides and drivers are included in your expedition costs. You will be accompanied throughout by Equity Estates Expeditions hosts and on-site support. The trip also includes the flight from Tokyo to Sapporo for the skiing portion of the journey.
Chase Legendary Powder in Niseko
Niseko is Japan’s premier skiing area. Situated on Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island, the resort area is internationally renowned for consistent powder snow and stunning alpine scenery. Equipped with some of the country’s finest hotels, the Niseko region is well known for its blend of adventure and luxury. During January and February, Niseko can experience more than 20 powder days per month, with storm cycles refilling slopes overnight.
Equity Estates Expeditions guests will spend seven nights in Niseko, on a trip that combines skiing and cultural experiences.
The core of the expedition is six days of guided skiing. This includes five days at the Niseko United resort, plus a one-day CAT-ski day at Hokkaido Backcountry Club.
The Niseko United resort comprises four resorts on Niseko Annupuri mountain. Niseko United is famous for some of the driest, lightest powder snow in the world. Across all four ski resorts, Niseko United offers more than 28 miles of on-piste runs. Advanced skiers can enjoy 18 powder runs. The resorts include multiple runs for skiers of all abilities, including children. However, the full powder-skiing experience is best suited to advanced and intermediate skiers.
On the final day of the expedition, the expedition tilts heavily toward the adventurous. You can take a CAT-ski day in search of untracked powder on the Karibayama range. You will be under the supervision of experienced guides who will provide instruction on safely navigating the powder-snow areas. Hokkaido Backcountry Club is renowned for some of the most exclusive, big-mountain powder skiing in Asia.
The skiing program is complemented by a full program of cultural events and experiences for non-skiers and those who want a break from skiing. Options include a day trip to Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, and visits to Otaru, a port city famous for its canals and glassworks. Whiskey lovers can join a trip to a Hokkaido whiskey distillery to learn more about Japanese whiskey culture.
The trip also includes daily breakfast and five hosted dinners.
Accommodation is at SETSU Niseko, a five-star luxury hotel attached to the Grand Hirafu ski resort, the largest of the Niseko United resorts. Named “Japan’s Best Ski Hotel” at the 13th Annual World Ski Awards in 2025, SETSU Niseko features a selection of fine restaurants, including Tempura Araki, the sister restaurant to Sapporo’s remarkable two-Michelin-star establishment of the same name. The hotel also offers private onsen (Japanese hot spring baths) rooms in one of Niseko’s largest wellness centers.
Equity Estates will also support guests who are inclined to venture out on their own to Kyoto and other bucket-list stops in Japan.
