Explore Lisbon, Portugal

Nicknamed the City of Seven Hills due to its rolling, picturesque landscape, Lisbon is a beauty to behold. From centuries-old architecture and signature red-tile roofs to winding cobblestone streets alight with color and warmth — all set against the sparkling blue backdrop of the Tagus River — it’s a city that welcomes you in and invites you to explore.

We recently acquired a beautifully designed, two-bedroom home in Lisbon’s lovely Chiado neighborhood, featuring modern amenities, an abundance of historic charm, and stunning views. We’re excited for our Investors to explore this beautiful city and experience the comfort and luxury of our newest Equity Estates home for themselves.

Whether you’re a history buff, foodie, art lover, or an adventurer ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Portugal’s capital, Lisbon’s friendly charm and coastal big city ambiance will leave you enchanted.

What You’ll Love About Lisbon

The architecture: As one of Europe’s oldest cities, Lisbon has a rich history that spans more than two millennia. Today, it’s home to wide boulevards, public squares, and grand buildings representing a diverse mix of architectural styles — from Pombaline and neoclassical to Manueline and Baroque — alongside newer, more contemporary designs.

In the Chiado district in particular, you’ll find famous landmarks, classic theatres, and the world’s oldest bookstore along with modern retail boutiques, shopping centers, and sophisticated restaurants — just steps away from your Equity Estates home.

The weather: Lisbon is not just one of Europe’s oldest cities, it’s also one the sunniest, with at least 300 days of sunshine each year. That means you can visit in any season and enjoy blue-sky days and the incredible, dazzling light that Lisbon is famous for. With a Mediterranean climate, winters tend to be short and mild, summers are dry and range from warm to hot, and November is the month with the most rainfall.

Charming neighborhoods: The picture-perfect Alfama neighborhood is an excellent example of old Lisbon, with narrow alleys, traditional houses, and lovely public parks. Here you can meander through side streets and open plazas, soaking up authentic local culture. Baixa is an eclectic mix of old and new, where many of Lisbon’s landmarks, shops, and restaurants can be found. It’s the main retail and banking district of the city, stretching from the river to Avenida da Liberdade, with streets named according to the shopkeepers and craftsmen who traded in the area.

The neighborhood of Belém is a quieter part of the city and features open, tree-lined plazas, parks, and riverside walking paths, as well as the iconic 16th-century Belém Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and symbol of Portugal’s “Age of Discovery.”

In Bairro Alto, the vibe is cool bohemian with a vibrant bar and restaurant scene that comes alive after dark. It’s a great place to gather over drinks while listening to live fado music or enjoy a self-guided culinary tour, sampling traditional Portuguese dishes alongside world-class international cuisine.

Delicious food and wine: Food and drink feel like a celebration in Lisbon. Ingredients such as bacalhau (dried, salted codfish), octopus, and sardines provide a taste of the sea in traditional dishes such as bacalhau à brás (a savory mix of shredded cod, onions, potatoes, and eggs), polvo a lagareiro (octopus in olive oil), and simple, hot-off-the-grill salted sardinhas.

Local cheeses, caldo verde soup, Portuguese pork sandwiches, and the world-famous pastel de nata custard tarts are a few other not-to-be-missed examples of the city’s incredible cuisine.

For a perfect taste of Lisbon, seek out some of the city’s top restaurants and hidden gems.

Relax with a lovely lunch at the elegant Audrey’s or the tucked-away Quase Café. Sample Pastéis de Belém’s original version of the pastel de nata tart. Try the innovative small plates and famous cheese pie at the ultra-modern Ofício Lisboa and the fabulous seafood at Tabernário do Bairro. Or have an unforgettable, Michelin-starred dining experience at the chic Belcanto — named one of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World.

Accompany your meals with excellent local wines from the Lisboa, Alentejo, or Douro regions, and be sure to try ginjinha, Portugal’s iconic sour cherry liqueur, at least once during your trip.
