Investor Spotlight: Rogelio and Montse de Los Santos

Fund III investors, Rogelio and Montse (Sofia) de Los Santos, originally met on a blind date and have now been married for 29 years. The two share a love of travel and have passed that on to their four children (ages 24, 21, 18, and 9).

Settled in Monterrey, the family frequently visits Austin, Texas, and has also built amazing memories having “great adventures and exploring the world.”

Global Travel

Rogelio and Sofia’s investment in Equity Estates came about at a perfect time for the family.

“Just before the pandemic hit, Sofia and I were looking to spice up our trip options,” Rogelio explained. “When we all went into isolation, it became clear to us that we needed to have access to homes where we could travel all together or with family and friends, as we had decided to stay away from hotels.”

They discovered Equity Estates after extensive online research, looking for the investment travel option that would best fit their family. After researching, comparing companies and business models, and making several due diligence calls, they decided to join Equity Estates — a decision they’ve been happy with.

Their first experience in an Equity Estates home is one that they will never forget.

“The first months of 2020 were very stressful and, since I had privileged information of what was really going on, we decided to go to Cabo and settle there in a different environment to take a break,” said Rogelio. “I remember we were working remotely and taking classes online, so being at home or in Cabo was the same but different. I remember we went fishing on Father’s Day and we were the first group out in the ocean — one reason why we were so lucky to catch three marlins (what a gift!).”

Their Favorite Trips and Homes

Now, several years into their Equity Estates investment, the de Los Santos family have been to Cabo, Costa Rica, San Diego, Palm Springs, Big Island, Vail, Big Sky, Napa Valley, Ambergris Caye, Virgin Gorda, Park City, Beaver Creek, and St. Martin.

They’ve liked some of the destinations so much they’ve gone back multiple times; Ambergris Caye, Belize, and Wine Country I, California, are two of their favorites. Another is Virgin Gorda II, British Virgin Islands.

“It’s hard to decide,” Rogelio shared, “but Virgin Gorda makes the top spot. We went there to celebrate Sofia’s 50th birthday, and the house and island are just unique in many ways. Snorkeling just in front of the house or going to a lookout spot near the Gorda Peak Summit are unique places, truly privileged and magical.”

As for the homes, they said it’s hard to choose a favorite because they have all been great, but the Napa house joins Virgin Gorda as one of their favorites.

“There are many outdoor areas to entertain and enjoy, and the outdoor pizza oven is a nice touch,” said Rogelio.

“Every trip has been a special occasion to celebrate with who we are with and with whom we share our lives,” they said. “The least favorite part of our trips is when we must depart each vacation we have made with Equity Estates.”

Trips Since 2025 and Planned Future Destinations

From 2025 to early 2026, Rogelio and Sofia set an agenda for several amazing trips: “Vail in summer with our kids as they will cheer me at the Triple Bypass bike race; Napa to start the fall and enjoy the harvest season with other couples; St Martin with our kids to explore a new Caribbean place; and Ambergris Caye so our kids can get their scuba certification,” Rogelio said.

St. Martin was a new destination for them, and one they were looking forward to experiencing. And though they’d been to the Vail, Napa, and Ambergris Caye homes before, they were excited for those trips as well.

As for the future, more travel with Equity Estates is planned, including a European vacation that’s been on their list for a while. “Sofia has dreamed of visiting Tuscany, so that will have to be one of our next destinations,” Rogelio said.

“Equity Estates is a lifestyle decision where our values and inner-circle relationships get nurtured. At the end of our lives, what will matter the most will be the quality of time you devote to your most important priorities in life.”
