Work and Travel
Equity Estates Investors Farrukh and Huma Azim now call Westlake, Texas, home. That’s a far cry from India, where they both grew up.
Though Farrukh had a nine-year background in civil engineering, when he first arrived stateside, he found himself delivering Dunkin’ Donuts all over DC. During the nine months he worked making deliveries, he also committed himself to learning everything he could about IT and systems architecture.
While he achieved success in the technology world, he and Huma eventually transitioned into real estate. They began by flipping homes and subsequently expanded into land acquisition and development. Huma, “played an integral role in this journey, expertly managing the day-to-day operations of flipping homes, coordinating with contractors… and handling real estate transactions as a skilled agent.”
With their grown sons, Basil, and his wife Hannah, Saif, and Ali, they now operate multiple businesses, including real estate development, a food packaging business, and an equity trading firm.
Despite the workload, the close-knit family makes travel a priority, averaging up to eight trips each year.
A Shared Investment
Investors since 2021, Farrukh shares that they learned about Equity Estates through their friend, business partner, and investor, Jerome Hill.
“The appeal of gaining access to premier housing in top-tier destinations was a major deciding factor for us. Though we initially had some reservations about the commitment, the quality of the experience quickly outweighed any concerns.”
“Our Equity Estates investment is a family endeavor,” he continues. “We primarily use it for family trips, as the spacious homes make it far more convenient and comfortable than booking multiple hotel rooms.”
“We’re definitely traveling more since joining Equity Estates,” Saif adds. “The variety of incredible locations and destinations we’ve discovered through the portfolio has inspired us to explore new places we might not have considered otherwise.”
The Azims love staying active and exploring the surroundings of every place they visit. They say that golfing, hiking, and taking excursions to discover the local area or community are among their favorite vacation activities, providing a mix of relaxation and adventure on every trip.
They recently added to their investment in another fund. “It’s been a versatile asset for both personal milestones and relationship-building opportunities,” says Farrukh.
First Experience, Quick Trips, and Special Occasions

The family’s first Equity Estates trip was to the stunning Klein Bay home in St. John, a destination and oceanfront property that they all enjoyed.
There, they went kayaking, had a day out on a catamaran, explored local restaurants, relaxed on the home’s private beach, and celebrated with an in-home private chef birthday dinner — all set up through Equity Estates’ concierge services.
“It was a memorable experience, with all of us under one roof, enjoying the chance to explore a new part of the world together,” Basil recalls. “The sense of togetherness and discovery on that trip left a lasting impression.”
Another standout vacation was to the Nendaz house in Switzerland during the summer of 2022.
“That trip holds a special place in our hearts because I proposed to my wife there,” says Basil, “making it an unforgettable milestone celebrated in a beautiful setting.”
The Azims are also particularly fond of the Equity Estates homes in Mexico, sharing that their proximity to Texas “makes them perfect for quick weekend getaways, offering convenience without sacrificing luxury or quality.”
Having taken 25 trips with Equity Estates already — for family getaways, an engagement celebration, bachelor trips, and memorable vacations with friends and business partners — the Azim family is happy with their travel investment.
Family Favorites
When asked to share some of their favorite things about Equity Estates, they all say that the “white-glove service, expansive and high-quality homes, and the seamless process from start to finish” are the things that set Equity Estates apart.
“It’s a level of simplicity and sophistication that elevates the entire vacation experience beyond what we’ve encountered with hotels or typical vacation rentals,” says Huma.
They especially appreciate the concierge service, private chefs, pre-stocked groceries, and homes that are spacious enough to comfortably sleep at least four bedrooms’ worth of guests.
Farrukh also appreciates that the “build quality of the homes is five stars and that there is compounding interest on the investment.”
“One of my favorite things about Equity Estates that hasn’t been mentioned yet,” Hannah says, “is the incredible hospitality of the local hosts and the talented chefs who cook awesome meals right in our own Equity Estates kitchens. Their warmth and culinary skills bring a special energy to the trips.”
Future Travel Plans
The family’s next trip is to Big Sky, which they say is part of a yearly tradition to escape the Texas heat. “We’re excited to get out and enjoy the stunning landscapes and outdoor activities there,” says Basil.
They also have several other trips lined up for the remainder of 2025, including stays in Punta Cana, Venice, and Playa Palmilla, keeping their travel calendar full and exciting.
As for dream vacations, they say they’d love to explore more destinations around the world when opportunities arise.
In the meantime, they are happy to continue visiting familiar favorites and new-to-them vacation spots, making good use of their investment and enjoying family time and unforgettable adventure wherever they go.
