A record number of eager travelers are finally getting back to long awaited getaways. We’ve witnessed this travel trend with our own investors at Equity Estates. The travel media has dubbed this revenge travel. The revenge being directed at the pandemic and its subsequent travel restrictions that brought international travel, group vacations, and epic celebrations to a screeching halt.

Now that travel constraints are being lifted, eager tourists are sparing no expense to plan long-awaited, much-needed vacations. This includes family reunions, milestone celebrations and return visits to favorite destinations with family and friends as travel-starved Americans have triggered a surge in tourism.

See a few articles I’ve recently read about this trend:

Having just returned from an unforgettable milestone birthday celebration with my beautiful wife, I can say I’m fully on board with this concept. The trip was a poignant reminder of why it’s important to invest in the assets that matter most – family. It’s also why we’re experiencing such success at Equity Estates. Recent times put a spotlight on the importance of vacationing together in quality homes. It also placed Equity Estates at the forefront as a savvy investment opportunity allowing our investors to build memories that last a lifetime.

As we sailed through the first half of 2022, I proudly look back on the last year and consider just how far Equity Estates has come since its inception in 2006. Thanks to our straightforward investment model, our dedicated and growing team, and incredibly loyal and astute investors, we’ve not only survived but flourished through an economic recession, a global pandemic, and a series of natural disasters.  After fifteen years of successfully refining our model to best serve our investors, we are now veterans in the luxury travel space.

As our funds have grown over the last two decades, so have the travel options we offer.

Three Ways to Travel with Equity Estates

Let me suggest three ways to exact the most epic travel possible through Equity Estates.

KOKO Yacht

Our affiliated company, Equity Estates Marine Management, LLC is delighted to announce KOKO, a 72-foot, Italian-built luxury motor yacht sailing out of St. Martin to St. Barts and Anguilla with the BVI and other Caribbean islands available upon request.

I am excited to share KOKO Yacht is open to non-investors of Equity Estates.

Click here to learn more about chartering KOKO.

I had the privilege to travel aboard KOKO earlier this spring. It is absolutely an adventure of a lifetime to witness the endless million-dollar views from this luxury yacht. Aboard KOKO, the five-star Equity Estates experience is delivered by a skilled and personable captain, dedicated head steward, and a talented private chef who whips up snacks and fresh meals from locally sourced goodies all day, every day, at your beck and call.

Life aboard a private yacht is unparalleled to any Caribbean experience. Having three devoted crew taking care of fun, food, and drinks from the moment you wake to the second you retire for the night is nothing short of divine.

We spent an afternoon navigating the calm aqua waters on paddleboards as the stew taught slalom skiing off the yacht’s tender. Our front row seats to amazing marine life while snorkeling in the Captain’s secret spots were unbeatable. I brought hand selected wine from my cellar and the chef skillfully paired them with creations reminiscent of a day in wine countrywhile afloat of course.

Expeditions & Excursions

After a decade of studying our investors’ travel habits and preferences, we expanded our bucket-list travel options by offering Equity Estates Expeditions – once-in-a-lifetime trips in the company of fellow Equity Estates investors.

Our investors indulge their wildest vacation dreams with incomparable trips including:

  • South African Safari, Victoria Falls and Cape Town
  • Danube River Cruise/Oktoberfest

  • Tour of Tuscany
  • The Galapagos on a Private Yacht
  • Botswana Safari

In July, we welcomed over 30 of our investors to Johannesburg where they kicked off a world-class expedition and safari in South Africa. By private charter we flew investors to two renowned game reserves where they spent six unforgettable days in luxury accommodations in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve and witnessed “The Big Five” of Africa (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo).

In addition to the bespoke safari, an optional trip allowed investors to marvel at the sights of Victoria Falls and fly by private charter to Cape Town to experience the stunning cliffs of the Cape of Good Hope and hand-picked activities specific to each family’s activity level and preferences.

We’re pleased to announce survey results are in, and investors ranked this once-in-a-lifetime experience a 9.6/10 all around. We’re currently mapping out 2023 and 2024 expeditions with several exciting bucket list adventures in the running.

It’s been a huge success executing unforgettable trips for our investors where they earn bragging rights to adventures few ever experience while forging new friendships with fellow investors. We invite you to click here to peek at these magnificent trips.

Introducing Fund VI

In summary, it’s been a busy sixteen years at Equity Estates, with 2022 being a milestone year of record growth both through the rapid sell-out of Fund V, the addition of many new team members, the launch of Fund VI, exclusive safaris and expeditions, and what could be the most epic travel benefit we offer to both investors and non-investors, KOKO Yacht.

Thanksgiving is a time for family, gratitude, and reflection.

To start with, I feel incredibly grateful to have just returned from a week at the Equity Estates residence in Hilton Head Island. It was amazing to have my 79-year-old mother join my wife and children for this trip. She heavily influenced my love for the beach. Boogie boards and picnic baskets were daily summer activities growing up near the south shore of Long Island. Just hearing the ocean brings back great feelings for me.

Additionally, I feel also grateful for the many successes our business has experienced over the past 18 months, including:

  1. Fund IV selling out in record time
  2. Fund V launching and breaking escrow in record time
  3. Higher than expected results for Fund I’s initial liquidations (38% higher so far)

For better or worse, the global pandemic has put an economic and lifestyle spotlight on what we’ve been doing at Equity Estates for fifteen years. It’s both humbling and rewarding to see this type of investment resonating with so many people.

Recently, we’ve been asked questions about inflation. It’s a topic dominating conversation pretty much everywhere. Industry experts can’t seem to stop talking about it. Prospective investors want to understand the impact of inflation on our business model. In what ways does it influence our residence acquisition strategy? Do we foresee it affecting potential future returns?

Real Estate is a Good Hedge Against Inflation

The bottom line is that inflation is surprisingly good news for Equity Estates investors.

Let’s start with the reality of inflation. It’s here and it seems to be growing. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell acknowledged a few weeks ago that inflation pressures “are likely to last longer than previously expected,” noting that they could run “well into next year.”

See below for a few articles that I found in a quick search:

People are continuing to look for ways to diversify their holdings to ride out a possible downturn in the financial markets. Real estate has always been viewed as a good hedge against inflation. Luxury real estate, however, is proving to be a particularly attractive vehicle for those who can afford it. According to the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing, the median list price for a single-family luxury home was $1,812,500 in October 2021 – a 7.5% increase over the same time last year. Compare that figure to the 6.2% increase in U.S. consumer prices over the past year as recently reported by the U.S. Labor Department. This would suggest that luxury real estate appreciation is outpacing consumer price inflation.

We honestly believe both are being under reported based on anecdotal observations.

What will happen to Fund V? Well, we won’t know for sure for another 10+ years. It is very exciting, however, to see the impact inflation is having on appreciation – it is pushing double digits in desirable luxury markets. We believe this will continue for a while thanks to both continued inflation and sustained, high demand.

Even so, I sometimes scratch my head at the astronomical prices we see for some luxury residences. Our buying strategy has had to morph to meet the new market dynamics — we know how to win competitive bids for the right homes. By the way, if you are interested in learning about our three keys to successful acquisitions in any macroeconomic climate, including this one, feel free to read my blog from March 2021 on Finding Good Buys in a Seller’s Market.

Market timing is extremely difficult when it comes to real estate. We will never be able to predict exactly what may happen. Which is precisely why our private offering’s strategy is a long-term hold of carefully selected assets. Collective asset ownership (which is what our Luxury Residence Fund model is essentially) offers diversification, a hedge against inflation, and an outstanding way to enjoy a large and expanding portfolio of $2 to $5 million homes for a fraction of buying just one of them.

Fund V is the Best Selfish Hedge Against Inflation

Hopefully, you agree with my statements that (1) inflation is here, and (2) real estate is a good hedge against it. Now let’s go one step further. I’d argue that Equity Estates Fund V is the best “selfish” hedge against inflation. Selfish in that you’ll get a ton of personal enjoyment out of this investment. Fund V investors will experience 10+ years of amazing vacations. I’m proud to be an investor in multiple funds, including Fund V. It’s been the best investment of my life thanks to the dozens and dozens of memories I’ve created with my family and friends.

For me, Thanksgiving and the holidays are a time for family, gratitude, and reflection. Join us at Equity Estates, and we’ll promise you extra helpings of memories. Then, when you reflect on your decision to become an investor, you’ll be grateful for making a deservedly selfish choice, too.

When was the last time one of your financial investments planned a luxury vacation for you?

Until next time, safe travels!

Nestled high in the Rocky Mountains, Aspen is a year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Aspen in the winter is a dream for skiing and other outdoor sports, boutique shopping, eating, or simply sipping a hot toddy by the fireplace and relaxing.

With Equity Estates, the possibilities are endless. We interviewed our knowledgeable Destination Manager for Aspen to create a perfect three-day itinerary. There is so much to do in this fabulous destination!

Day One: Explore a Winter Wonderland

For downhill skiing or snowboarding, there is nothing better than starting with Aspen Mountain, known locally as “Ajax.” Catch the Gondola in the village, a short walk from your Equity Estates home. Lunch on the mountain or at the base. Aspen’s Roaring Fork Valley boasts four ski mountains, each offering something for skiers of all levels: bowls, steeps, groomers, or gentle slopes—you don’t have to decide ahead of time as all resorts use the same lift ticket.

Another option for today, allow us to hire a snowshoe guide or rent cross country skis for a different perspective of the area. There are 90 kilometers of free trails in the Aspen Snowmass Nordic Trail System. Take a lesson or guided tour through the beautiful rolling hills and aspen groves of the Owl Creek Trail, the North Star Nature Preserve, or take in stunning vistas of the majestic Elk Mountains. Your private concierge will arrange equipment rental and reserve your guide at the Aspen Cross Country Center (ACCC). Afterwards, relax in the ACCC lounge with a hot drink or head into Aspen Village for the perfect snack or lunch.

If you prefer to explore on your own, sans guide or teacher, trail system maps are available at the Center or online and your concierge will plan a picnic lunch for you from Meat & Cheese Market, a local favorite. Located in the heart of Aspen, the market offers take away or dine in. Soups, salads, sandwiches, charcuterie boards, and desserts, OH MY! Cocktails, wine, and beer may also be ordered to go if the restaurant is not currently seating.

Afterwards, walk around Aspen Village and warm up with a coffee, tea, or hot chocolate at Victoria+co. This Australian style cafe is part coffee shop, part bakery, part wine bar. This local gem also serves hot breakfast and hot lunch. For a family style take out dinner, your concierge can pre-order the house specialty, Thai Green Curry.

Your concierge will arrange dinner reservations for Cache Cache, which is viewed by many as the best restaurant in Aspen. The food is unpretentious and delicious—try the Alaskan King Crab appetizer and choose from the restaurant’s over 6000 bottles of wine. Or for the Italian lovers, try Acquolina Trattoria and Pizzeria. A local favorite, savor the minestrone on a cold night. They have a full menu of salads, pastas, and entrees, too. Your concierge can arrange reservations or for dinner delivery if you prefer a night at home for a cozy movie night by the fireplace.

Day Two: Dogsled through Snowmass Backcountry

Ski at Snowmass in the morning and let us plan an afternoon or twilight dogsledding adventure with Krabloonik for a unique Aspen experience. Eight husky sled dogs guided by an experienced musher will pull you through the backcountry for an exciting and peaceful journey. Afterwards have a late lunch in their dining room or head back to Aspen for a bite or happy hour.

A modern Aspen Landmark since 1889 at the height of the town’s silver boom with its Old West vibe, J-Bar at the Hotel Jerome remains the town’s social hub, where local skiers rub elbows with socialites over craft beers, vintage-inspired cocktails, and Aspen’s best burger.

Tonight, dinner reservations at Steakhouse No. 316. Red velvet curtains and leather booths create a warm atmosphere on a snowy night, and they offer a full steak menu with many seafood and fowl options. Or rather, enjoy a five-star dinner in the comfort of your home and allow us to arrange for a private chef. Your concierge will work with you to select the perfect menu including wine pairings. Investors rave about this feature of traveling with Equity Estates.

Day Three: Shop ‘til You Drop and Go for a Sleigh Ride

Aspen offers unique, world class shopping. Spend the day wandering through town in search of treasure, that special statement piece, home decor item or gift.

Shop high end fashion consignment, many pieces are brand new with the original tags at The Little Bird. Discover top of the line Western wear and accessories at Kemo Sabe. Design your own statement piece—custom boots, hats, or buckles— or buy off the shelf and have them brand your initials on the item. The store has something for everyone and is a must-see destination in Aspen. You will not be disappointed. The Daniels Antiques collection is eclectic and to wander the store is an adventure through time and taste. Admire museum-quality antiques and rarities that are 50 years or even a century old. The owners specialize in Swiss Black Wood forest carvings. Inventory also includes French industrial clocks, contemporary art, custom aviation furniture, luxury barware, Louis Vuitton, and 20th century curiosities.

Hit the slopes or town in the timeless style of Gorsuch Ltd. Shop fur boots, luxurious cashmere, wool favorites, and performance wear. Shop Pitkin County Dry Goods for contemporary clothing, one of Aspen’s top retail destinations. This 50-year locally owned business has a loyal customer base from all over the world and when you stop in you will see why. The selection of men’s and women’s fashion is unique and stylish.

Come for the people watching and truffle fries, there is no better seat in town for lunch or cocktails than Ajax Tavern. Warm up with spiced cider or mulled wine at this hot spot, loved by locals and out of town visitors. Located at the base of Aspen Mountain and next to Silver Queen Gondola, this is the spot. Sit outside year-round thanks to their sunny tented, heated patio and during the winter season, they offer dinner and a movie. The cauliflower au gratin will not disappoint. Or if you’re interested in the St. Regis Aspen Resort, then drop in at the Mountain Social Bar & Lounge for handcrafted cocktails and light fare with views of Aspen Mountain.

Let us plan dinner and a sleigh ride for you at Pine Creek Cookhouse for the experience of a lifetime. Beautiful Percheron horses pull classic wooden sleighs to dinner in the nearby Ashcroft Valley. Guided by cowboys, your 20-minute sleigh ride takes you through the aspen trees with breathtaking views of the Elk Mountains on your way to an elegant cabin. Feast on rack of lamb, pistachio crusted caribou, and barbequed flat iron steak. The menu changes daily.

At Home In Aspen with Equity Estates

Equity Estates recently invested $275,000 to upgrade the interior and exterior of our four-bedroom Aspen residence. This has immediately added to the residence’s value and the feedback from our investors is they love it. The spacious living room and open floor plan allow for the entire family to comfortably gather around the fireplace for a cozy night in after a day of skiing or other winter adventures. Have a movie night or choose from a selection of games and prepare dinner in your expansive chef’s kitchen. Your private concierge will arrange reservations for activities and outings, meals out or meals in. She will even pick up your groceries to ensure your kitchen is stocked with all of your favorites from the local market. If preferred, she will hire a local private chef to experience the famous Aspen cuisine in your home.

Travel with Equity Estates for a unique and memorable Aspen experience. If you would like more information about investing with Equity Estates, please reach out to our Investor Relations team at 404.445.8501 or tap this link to schedule a call.

Your Aspen adventure awaits!

If the allure of stunning white sand beaches, warm cerulean water and laidback friendly islands is beckoning you, put the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) on your next destination list. Now more than ever, many of us are yearning to travel somewhere beautiful where we can recharge, enjoy time with our family and leave the daily stressors behind. Many destinations are off-limits to visitors due to the pandemic, but the TCI is welcoming U.S. visitors.

As of January 4, 2021, there are no quarantine requirements, lockdowns, or curfews. Visitors aged 10 and older only need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within five days of arrival, have medical insurance and answer an online health questionnaire. Restaurants, shops and attractions are open (some with reduced capacity and mask requirements). And unlike many tropical destinations that require several hours in the air and multiple airports, the TCI is a short two to three-hour flight from many airports along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard.

Turks and Caicos

Day One

The TCI beaches are the #1 attraction here, so from either residence, our DMs suggest easing into your stay by simply walking out your door, and you’ll be on a spectacular beach in moments. At either residence, you can settle into a comfortable deck chair next to an infinity pool and admire the beach sand-free— or dig your toes in the sand and take a dip in the warm, crystal-clear tropical ocean. When lunchtime rolls around, choose from several friendly, tasty beachfront restaurants such as Da Conch Shack or Omar’s Beach Hut. Both establishments have tables right on the beach, so no need to change out of your swimsuit!

Since the world’s third-largest barrier reef borders the island chain, our DMs say the TCI’s second-best attraction is its fantastic snorkeling and diving. Spend the afternoon cruising with Caicos Dream Tours and let its friendly, capable crew take you to remote beaches and snorkeling spots — or if fishing is on your agenda, you’ve come to the right spot! The TCI is a renowned bonefish and deep-sea fishing destination. If you happen to visit a few days after the full moon, another option is to book a Glow Worm Sunset Cruise with Sun Charters. Each month this spectacular phenomenon happens when bioluminescent sea worms carry out a mating ritual by swimming in circular patterns about an hour after sunset.

For dinner, our DMs suggests Seven Restaurant’s private dining experience where you can dine on or near the beach — or indulge in their private Tasting Room five-course, paired wine experience. If French/Italian cuisine sounds appealing, head to the Michelin-starred Provence by Eric.

Sea Turtle

Day Two

If you’re interested in learning to scuba dive or you’re already certified, the TCI offers exceptional diving, and our DMs recommend a private charter with Dive Provo. Another option they like is a trip with SNUBA Turks and Caicos, a shallow water diving hybrid between scuba diving and snorkeling. You don’t need a certification or wear cumbersome gear — you can swim among the spectacular sea life as you breathe through a specialized mouthpiece attached to air tanks that float on the surface.

Once your morning adventure ends, it’s time to refuel. For a tasty lunch, look no further than Cocovan’s food truck (run by the fabulous team at Coco Bistro). Sit at one of their outdoor picnic tables as you enjoy their fantastic fish, steak or falafel tacos and “Big Mac” egg rolls. After lunch, explore Provo’s remote wetlands via private kayak tours with Big Blue Collective. They also offer standup paddleboarding trips, kitesurfing and other adventures. For a more relaxed afternoon, lounge by your pool or the beach until it’s time for “sundowners” (sunset cocktails)! For dinner, let The Kissing Fish Catering Co. prepare and serve you a fabulous feast in the comfort of your residence. If you prefer to dine out, this talented group also runs Bay Bistro, a wonderful oceanfront eatery where you can dine at a private table directly on Grace Bay Beach. For late night fun, head to Casablanca Casino and try your luck at blackjack, roulette, poker or slots.

Day Three

Horseback riding is a fun adventure anywhere, and doing a private ride with Provo Ponies offers an extra perk — in addition to a scenic beach ride, their horses love to wade into the ocean! The well-trained, friendly horses carry you safely into the shallow water, allowing you both to cool your legs off a bit. You’ll have worked up an appetite on this unique adventure, so for lunch, our DMs say head to Bugaloos Conch Crawl, a lively beachfront restaurant with daily live entertainment and outdoor games. They even have tables sitting in the shallow, calm water so you can cool your feet as you eat.

After lunch, grab one more chance to admire the TCI’s underwater paradise on your own or take a guided snorkel trip at Coral Gardens, a well-marked snorkel trail just offshore from the Coral Gardens Resort. You’ll likely see gliding sea turtles, scores of tropical fish and maybe even a barracuda. Keep an eye out for Jammin’ Gelato’s ice cream cart that cruises up and down the beach serving delicious, unique flavors. If you’ve had your fill of water adventures, end your third day with a relaxing spa treatment from one of the TCI’s many luxurious spas.

No beach vacation is complete without a sunset cruise, so let Island Vibes Tours take you on a private luxury cruise and sip rum punch, champagne, beer or wine as you watch the glorious sun sink under the horizon. For dinner, our Destination Managers say Coco Bistro is a must. Dine under swaying palms and cozy lighting as you sample some of the TCI’s best local cuisine.

Thompson Cove

Not One, But Two Fantastic Homes

Best of all, you have two fantastic Equity Estates’ residences to choose from — a luxurious four-bedroom penthouse condo and a fabulous six-bedroom private villa. The expansive 4,500-square-foot penthouse overlooks Grace Bay Beach, which frequently lands on “Word’s Best Beaches” lists. Fifteen minutes away sits Thompson Cove, a divine 7,500-square-foot beachfront home boasting six equivalent master suites with private terraces, a splendid infinity pool and vast amounts of living space. We interviewed our Destination Managers, who, along with our Local Hosts, are ready to help you plan a much-needed, fantastic getaway to the TCI’s primary island, Providenciales (aka Provo). To help you get started, here are their suggestions on how to spend three perfect days in this idyllic island paradise.

Equity Estates can help make your visit to the TCI a delightfully unparalleled experience. If you’re already an investor, your Personal Travel Concierge is ready to assist you with arranging a memorable vacation here.

If you would like more information about investing with Equity Estates, please reach out to our Investor Relations team at 404.445.8501 or tap this link to schedule a call.

Prior to launching Equity Estates about 15 years ago, we met with experts in real estate, hospitality, legal, finance, and tax. We had a novel idea – to supersize the friend-share vacation home concept into a Luxury Residence Fund, where residences would be available to investors for personal use and financial benefit upon sale. We wanted to refine our business model and figure out the fairest way to structure this for all investors. One CPA we met with, Steve Gross, had a memorable reaction, “you have a nice little pony there”. I can still hear his words and mutter them out loud when good things happen at Equity Estates. To this day, it still makes me smile.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine a global pandemic would lead to our best sales quarter ever. Now, more than ever, we are reaping the fruits of our labor by finding likeminded investors who agree that Equity Estates is the right way to own and enjoy luxury vacation homes. Our offering makes common sense.

Why now? What’s different? I think you can boil it down to two main factors. First, the combination of global uncertainty with highly overvalued stock indices are leading savvy investors to find new ways to diversify their portfolios. Second, we’ve seen an unprecedented level of demand for private vacation homes among affluent travelers. They want a safe place to go.

The Reality Of Overvalued Stocks And Global Uncertainty

You would be hard pressed to pick up a serious financial publication these days without seeing an article on overvaluation. Here are a few that I found in a quick Google search:

With a global pandemic still lurking around, a growing number of people are looking for safer harbors to ride out a possible “tropical depression” in the financial markets. Luxury real estate is proving to be one of the more attractive vehicles for those who can afford it. It is something they can touch, feel, enjoy. The pandemic pulled at our heart strings by pointing out what is most important and how fleeting life can be. Time with loved ones matters. And yes, people still want to vacation and even work with a better view for extended periods of time. If you move to a resort town, eventually, when the pandemic is behind us, you will want to go back for vacations. If you live in a city, you want to get out and relax on a beach.

The catch, of course, is the ongoing cost and effort of owning and maintaining a second, third or fourth residence.

The Appeal Of Private Vacation Homes

COVID-19 has also succeeded in shining a bright spotlight on one of our company’s best features — privately maintained homes that are well-cared for by a discrete group of people. People who love Equity Estates and see the value immediately are the type who prefer the intimacy of our homes over a large resort or hotel. This is what we do best. We take care of private homes and our investors who travel to them. Many of our destinations have team members have been with us for over ten years. They maintain our portfolio homes to our standards.

My 77-year-old mother, a polio survivor, shared stories of being sent to the Poconos, the Jersey shore, and other vacation spots nearby to get out of the big cities for safety. It’s happening now once again. And while I am confident the cities will all rebound, this Equity Estates “little pony” will be scooping up good deals along the way…in the city, in the mountains and on the beaches.

Now Is A Great Time To Join

Six months ago, at the onset of the pandemic, we were nervous as potential investors who had previously committed to Fund IV abruptly changed their mind. Fast forward to today. Nearly all these people have come back, along with significant numbers of new prospective investors. They took the time to learn about our novel approach to owning and sharing homes, including how we care for them over time…especially now.

We would welcome an opportunity to discuss why now is a great time to invest in Equity Estates. Allocating a small amount out of your equities into a diversified portfolio of luxury real estate assets may pay dividends of outstanding experiences and long-term financial return.

There are incentives for any new investor who acts before Monday, December 7, 2020. This includes unlimited travel for $600 per night and delayed annual dues until you are ready to travel.
