Top 5 Beaches in Turks and Caicos

Top 5 Beaches in Turks and Caicos

With 40 islands (only eight of which are inhabited), 60+ named cays, and miles and miles of gorgeous coastline, Turks and Caicos is no stranger to spectacular beaches.

The islands are, in fact, an idyllic destination for divers, snorkelers, and sunbathers alike, with soft white sand and some of the clearest, most brilliant blue ocean water in the world.

Though it was hard to choose just five, we think you’ll agree that the beaches on our list are perfect examples of the stunning options you’ll find in this north-of the-Caribbean, British Overseas Territory — whether you’re looking for luxurious fun in the sun, family-friendly beach time, or remote untamed beauty.

1: Grace Bay Beach

Regularly ranked among the best (and most beautiful) beaches in the world, Grace Bay, on the island of Providenciales, is Turks and Caicos’ crown jewel. Think calm, clear turquoise water, pristine sugar-soft sand, and miles and miles of picture-perfect views. Best of all, even though it’s lined with upscale resorts and vacation villas, the beach itself never feels overcrowded, even during peak season.

It’s perfect for morning strolls, swimming, snorkeling and kayaking, or just relaxing under an umbrella with a refreshing, beachy drink.

2: Long Bay Beach

On the windier southeastern shore of Providenciales, lovely Long Bay Beach offers a wide expanse of shallow, warm water that’s perfect for windsurfing and kiteboarding — two of the island’s favorite activities. For non-thrill-seekers, the clear, shallow water is perfect for long walks or for families with young children.

One interesting thing about Long Bay beach is that, along with the gorgeous blue-sky-meets-blue-water views and the truly tropical vibe of waving palm trees, you can also catch a glimpse of the grounded wreck of a freighter ship just on the horizon.

3: Taylor Bay Beach

Tucked away on the southwest coast of Providenciales, with low sea cliffs at both ends, the scenic Taylor Bay Beach is a calm, crescent-shaped cove with shallow, clear water and minimal crowds — ideal for anyone seeking a quiet, tranquil day in the sun.

Unlike other spots in Turks and Caicos, Taylor Bay isn’t a great place for snorkeling, but it’s ideal for opening a bottle of wine on shore and watching the sunset. And at just 2,000 feet long, it’s cozier than a lot of the other beaches, which only adds to its romantic appeal.

4: Sapodilla Bay Beach

Located near Taylor Bay, but totally different in vibe, lively Sapodilla is another TCI beach known for gentle tides, fine, soft sand, and pretty views. At just 900 feet long and sheltered by surrounding coastal cliffs, it’s smaller than some of the other beaches, but still a great spot for anyone looking to spend a fun day by the water.

A number of vendors have small stalls and shade canopies set up along the tree line, offering food and drink, jet ski rentals, beach chairs, umbrellas and more. And it’s not uncommon for music to be playing throughout the day, creating a bustling, party-like atmosphere on shore.

5: Half Moon Bay Beach

One of the most beautiful — and least crowded — beaches in the TCI is the pristine Half Moon Bay, located between the uninhabited islands of Little Water Cay and Water Cay. The 0.75-mile long (and 400-foot-wide) beach is basically a sandbar that has grown over time and now supports light vegetation, a handful of trees and curious iguanas.

Half Moon offers some of the most stunning natural landscapes and panoramic ocean views of all the beaches and is a popular destination for day trips and kayakers, though even then it feels as if you have the entire beach to yourself.
